Couponers watch out for your newspaper. mine ( the News and Record ) ripped me off!

I usually buy my newspapers early Sunday morning from the little outside boxes( the ones that you put quarters in and pull down a front door. I have never had a problem. Today I bought 4 got home and they were missing Smart Source inserts! I called the paper and the operator said " they are not required to put all the inserts in a newspaper for those who don't subscribe to it". I am going to call her manager tomorrow , but this policy has been re inforced by other people telling me the same thing. That stinks!! Cheryl

My Weekend.. connected with an old dear friend...and shopping plans

I reconnected with an old dear friend and it felt nice to talk to someone who reminds me of who I was/am.
Our weather has been awful here and it is supposed to storm late today so I bought what I planned today.. First I had a coupon from CVS for a free paper towel or reusable bag I got the paper towel. At Walgreen's I bought another schick quattro razer for $1.60 I have like 8 razors or so still in the package. I went to K mart to see if I can finish some shopping there with double coupons but they had nothing I was looking for. At Walmart I had to go get a new Net 10 phone card and I bought 3 dawn dish detergent( the power pump kind) for $.50 , and I used a coupon for a free mascara. :)
Went to Home Depot got some potting soil and Tomato plants and 1 Strawberry plant( Dd wanted this) came home and planted some plants and then went back to H.T. to get some fish , frozen peas and frozen pizza.
Sunday should be a better couponing day.. At CVS I am going to get a $7 air freshener for $-.1) 2 Veet products for $2 and some Sally Hansen things.. They are BOGO and I have $3/2 so I should come away with some good deals( I have 3 of these coupons) Dd wants something from Sally Hansen that cost $8 so with the $3 coupon I should do ok, and of course nail polish remover.
at Walgreens I have $32 in Rr to use. I plan to make 4 trips and get SoftScrub body wash( this purchase gives you back a coupon for a free Soft scrub)and I have 6 coupons for this, and they have skinitimate shaving gel buy 1 get a RR for the same price, plus chapstick is buy one for $1.99 get a $1.99 RR back. Also I plan on getting some Razors for hubby for $8.99 and maybe a bottle of gain detergent for $10.99 with a $3 RR . I don't expect to make up the RR at all, but I should get about $15 back in RR to use and lots of free body wash.
I also will go to H.T. to use Sunday's coupons for free mustard, free underarm deodorant and some cheap paper plates.
If it dries up I plan on going out someplace but I am thinking the ground is going to be wet and Dd just informed me her friend and she wants to go to Walmart to buy the same shirts for a "twin day" at school this coming week. I wish my weekend would have been spent more outdoors but I can't have everything I want. Cheryl

My H.T. trip.. wasn't too impressed

I went this afternoon, and all ready they were out of things :( , I did 19 coupons saved $65 in Coupons and vic savings and spent $20.75 OOP.
Here is what I bought:
2 Always
2 Febreeze sprays
3 Dial hand soaps
3 muir Glen diced tomatoes
1 Mr clean eraser
3 Meuller noodles
2 409 sprays
2 Jello puddings
2 skippy Peanut butter
Arnolds Natural bread-- was on sale for $1.99 used a $1 coupon that did not triple
Deli meats/cheese buy 1 get 2 free( no coupon just great deal.
What surprised me the most was a big sign when you walk in stating triples for the week and the sentence that was underlined... 20 coupons per person PER DAY!!
I of course made 1 mistake with the noodles the coupon was $.50/2
Tomorrow I will go back and find what I can.. What is left. Cheryl

Dinner tonight... what happened to Monday menu planning..

I have been trying to do the Monday menu planning but there are times that I just don't want to. Since my Ds went away to college eating dinner has been a big issue. Making a meal that all 3 of us will eat is hard, and usually who gets left out is my husband. His meals have to have some kind of animal protein in it and there are nights I just make some type of pasta. Last night I made Pasta with alfredo sauce( it was pre made) so hubby made me buy him some things to make a chicken soup( I was going to the store ), this is how my budget gets messed up. Tonight I am making a peanut butter noodle dish) was going to make sesame noodles with shrimp, but don't have any sesame oil) with tofu and vegetable eggrolls. My husband probably will eat his left over soup again. This is really easy to make and I always have left overs for tomorrow. Cheryl

HT triples..

Harris Teeter in my area is tripling coupons up to $.99 . Last night I went through my coupon binder and took out the coupons that I plan to use and put them in the front of the binder so I can get to them easily. Here is my coupon list :
$.75 Planters big nut bars
$.50 Thai kitchen product
$.75 crest..
$.50 Always and $.50 always pantiliners
$. 75 crest
$.55 satin care shave gel.. I am hoping these are still $1.99 this would bring it down to $.34
$.50 reach floss.
$.50 listerine pockets
$. 50 noxema.. I am not sure of the price of this, so this is just something I am checking
$.75 Mr clean magic eraser
$.75 Mr clean wipes
$.40 ziploc
$.35 Dixie
$.50 dawn
$.75 409 and $.75 off clorox cleaning products.. these are on sale 2/$4 which would make them free after tripling :)
$. 50 glass plus
$.35 Viva paper towels
$. 50 febreeze
$.50 Febreeze air effects( this was on sale last week for $2 if it is still on sale this would make it $.50 I love the smell of these!!
$.55 ziploc with extended bottoms
$.75 duracell
$.75 Degree deodorant
$.30 qtips
$.75 Dole frozen fruit
$.75 Yoplait 100 calorie yogurts .. this was on sale 2/$3 hoping it still is
$.60 jello
$. 40 texas toast and Pepperidge farms garlic toast
$.75 eat smart chips
$.60 skippy Peanut Butter
$.40 pepperidge farm bread.
$.55 meullers noodles
$.55 Mahatma rice
$.75 /2 mahatma rice mixes
$.75 Muir Glen tomatoes( I ordered 10 of these off a website just for this) I am hoping this will make their canned tomatoes @ $.24 each
$.50 Honey Kix cereal
$.50 Nature's trail granola bars
$.75/2 Ortega products
$.55 Lays baked chips
Most of these coupons I have 4-6 each of. My plan is for most things I do not plan on paying more than $1.50-$2. except the Always and Duracell. I am really well stocked on Health and Beauty items and cleaning items so hopefully with this sale I can stock up on some pantry items.
Can't wait to go tonight. Cheryl

Anyone suffers from Allergies? Found a great product....

I was sent Afrin Pure Sea Hydrating Nasal Rinse to try from Bzz agent and have to say I was afraid to use it. For some reason I thought it would be nasty , chemically feeling or cause throat problems for me. Boy was I wrong. To use it you need to have you head turned to the side and bent, you take the bottle( that comes witha top that is removable for washing), and put the nozzle and press the button and soon you will feel a spray of water. With other nasal cleaning products I would cough and my throat would feel icky, this feels wonderful. Not a minute after using it my nose feels clear and I can breathe clearly. Also I can move around with other products I used I have had to hold my head back for more time and the best part of it this is all natural it is not made with harsh chemicals. I can truthfully say I am going to buy more of these. My CVS will have them on sale next month and I will be buying them. They are great!! Now if I can just get my kids to use it.. they see the way I use it and say : " no way am I using that!".

Had a Great Sunday .. K mart, CVS , Walgreen's and Rite Aid....

Yesterday I went early in the morning to K mart and bought $160+ dollars of things ( mostly health and beauty some cleaning stuff) after coupons my total was $43.21 , $10 of that being taxes.
Then I went to 2 different Walgreens spent $2.40 at one store and $3.52 at another store before totals were more than $23 and $28 dollars.
At Rite Aid I used a $10 gift card I got from them for shopping for Bayer aspirin last month and used it to buy a shampoo/conditioner that was BOGO and a Burt's bee's lip balm oop was $1.76
Finally at CVS my pre coupon total was around $39 after coupons /ecb's my total was a little over $5.. I am stocked for life I think for things. I am loving this and I still have $30 in Register Rewards from Walgreens and $44 in ECB's to spend at CVS !! I am doing great.

Lost in translation...

I don't know about most of you , but for me it can be hard translating words, phrases/sentences to another Language that is not my own. I learned Spanish to be able to communicate with my Spanish speaking husband, but so many things I say get lost, or misunderstood. It can be quiet aggravating at times. Sometimes you say something and you just offended the dead and living and other times you try to explain why words like lets say Two has 3 differerent spellings/meanings. I am not complaining, just stating a face.

Deals I am taking advantage of at H.T., Walgreens and CVS...

H.T. has a lot of Lysol products on sale. I bought 2 , going back for 2 more of the canned bathroom cleaner.. it is $3.19 ringing up 1/2 price and I have 2 $.75 so after coupons doubling it will be $.19 , they also have Chex mix for B2G3 I have 3 $.50 coupons I am hoping this will make one bag free so I am really only paying full price for one bag. They also have shrimp B1 G2 .. no coupon but a good deal.
Lowes foods has Wisk detergent for $3.49 with in-store coupon.. I have $1 coupons this will make it $2.49 , they have their bleach for $.99 going to pick this up too and they have bread for $1.49 which is great prices.
CVS.. I am going back for Aveeno it has a $2 ECB and I have a $2 coupon, plus I am thinking of getting more detangler for my Dd this gives also $2 ECB back and I have $2 coupons
Walgreens .. I am going to do the Nature's source rebate today and the Axe rebate too.. so I will be purchasing $6+ 4 =$10 - coupons and $6 RR = $0 rebate= $8 not bad.

Doubles and triples.. K mart and Harris Teeter...

My local K mart will be doubling coupons up to $2 this coming Sunday. I have all ready glanced at my coupons to see what I am going to be looking for. I have to set limits on what I am willing to pay for something, because K mart can be much higher on some of their things. Sometimes I can get an item cheaper at CVS or Walgreens just by using the coupon at it's regular price. So I guess I am going to have to set a limit of nothing more than $2 ( after coupon doubling). I have been doing better since I first went to K mart doubles. The first time I spent $80 ( saved $200) . I have a lot of cleaning things stocked up and also beauty items( I am running out of room). We will have to see how good I do.
My Harris Teeter is tripling( hopefully the rumors are true) next week coupons up to $.99.. Again I will see what good deals I can get. Free stuff /Almost free is always nice.

What I am buzzing...Nature's Source Natural Cleaners...

I am a bzz agent, which means I get sent new products to try out and talk about. I just received a box with samples of Nature'sSource Natural Cleaners and I must say they are more than wonderful. The smell is not strong at all, like other cleaners on the market, and they work great. I used the bathroom cleaner and it did just as good, if not better job cleaning my bathroom and the best part it doesn't have that chemically smell that you usually have after you clean your bathroom. The bottles are the same size as most cleaners, but these are white in back ground. There is Nature's Source Windex for glass cleaning, Nature's Source Scrubbing bubbles natural bathroom cleaner, also Nature's Source all purpose cleaner by Scrubbing bubbles, and Nature's Source Toilet bowl cleaner by scrubbing Bubbles. They are available in the Aisle where the cleaning items are I have seen them at Walgreens here in High Point and Harris Teeter and is also available at Target and Walmart.
The cleaner is free of ammonia, Bleach and Phosphorous, it is not tested on Animals( yeah!), the bottles are recycable and it is safe for plumbing and septic systems. The products cost around the same as other cleaning products between $3.49-$3.69.
If you are tired of a house that smells chemically, and want to be green I suggest you try these products. They are on sale at Walgreens next week.
Cheryl

My shopping plans.. for H.T. Lowes and Food lion..

Lowes foods will have Wisk 50 oz detergent .. $3.49 limit 6 .. I have 6 $1 coupons for this.. so I will have to do two trips.. to make all 6 $2.49.. :) not bad.
I am still trying to find what is on sale at H.T. when I do I will edit this post
Food lion has Thomas bagels BOGO I have $1 off coupon so this will be a good deal.
Scott paper towels will be $5.99 I also have $1 coupons for this, I may buy one.. I am running low on this
Lysol wipes are BOGO .. if you have the $1/2 coupons this could be a good deal.

I am not a big Food lion shopper, nor Lowes when I see a good deal I will go after it, but I truly am a H.T.Girl.
As soon as I get the H.T. ad I will post more. Cheryl

Learning to be a couponer by mistake...

I was a member of 2 great sites( or so I thought) of shopping using coupons. I would go to them to find deals, shopping lists extra. Eventually I just started to go to AFC( A full Cup.. ) This is a great site. I have made mistakes and they correct me, the other site I went to , I made 2 mistakes there in 4 months. This second time I was given "points " taken off. What are we in Kindergarten?? If you are new to couponing you are going to make mistakes, some people learn at a slower rate, or don't take classes for this. I decided to leave the site, because I wasn't using it as much anyway, there are a few good sites I have been using instead, and I don't want to frequent a site that treats people like they are children. There loss. I had a link here , took it down. So try A Full Cup for great places to find coupon help or A slick deal or I heart CVS, I heart Walgreens, or I heart Riteguard . They are great sites. Just blowing off steam with this post. Cheryl

So many pharmacy deals.. so many decisions..

I have had to change my plans for this coming week's sales.. ( 3/15) I just got a $20 gc in the mail form Walgreens for last month's purchases and CVS also sent me a $5/$30 purchases. So here goes..
CVS:
Colgate max white toothbrush/toothpaste- $2.99 get $2.99 in ECB's back
Irish Spring Body wash.. $4.99 get/use $4.99 in ECB's back also use $1.50 RIB coupon
Dove buy $15 get $5 back.. I plan to spend $17- 2 body washes and one conditioner and use $4.50 in coupons
I was thinking of doing the Pantene deal.. but now I am going to do the Cristophe deal..
Cristophe hair care is BOGO @ $7.99 ( I have a CVS printable coupon for this) and I am hoping I can use a $2 RIB coupon
this total = $32.97 - $5 = $27.97 - $13 in ECB= $14.97 - 7 in Coupons would be $7.97 I would get back around $13 in ECB's
Walgreens has 2 deals I want to do.. the Dove deal.. buy 8 get $8 RR back.. They have their products 25% off and I have a free coupon and there will be tons of Dove coupons in the paper Sunday. Also the Reach/listerine is going to be 3/$9 get $6 in RR back .. and there will be $3 coupons in the paper so this will be a MM
I also have $17 in RR to use. so I should be able to roll them with the gift card. This is going to be an exciting week for me. Cheryl

Menu changes...Chipotle black Bean soup

I was planning on pizza tonight, made the pizza last night and tonight I am doing Chipotle black bean soup.. This is really tasty and great on a cold night. I serve it with white rice, corn tortillas, and sour cream.
yummy

Trying to be frugal with a husband who thinks he is but isn't.!!!!!

Hubby always complains that I am the one that spends, but in truth it is him. I don't use the phone to make phone calls( I use the Internet to talk to people, I have 2 friends who live out of town) He buys national and international phone cards to talk to people, so there is about $50 a month on phone cards. I can do without the t.v. he can't when he got a bonus we bought a hdtv( he was complaining for months that our RCA 25 inch tv wasn't clear) so instead of a new bed, that we need desperately we bought a tv that he can sit in front of all day and watch.Of course we had to switch our cable service so now we are paying $24 more monthly. He will make pico de gallo for his boss and other people at work because they like it.. do you know how much this cost?? a pepper is $.99 cents, tomatoes $2.99 a pound. Limes.. 6 for $1. All this adds up, and today I had to throw out a mixture of this pico de gallo he made, but didn't put lime or salt in , so it ruined. When I cook and it is not a chicken or fish, hubby will not eat it and ends up making himself food, which increases our budget.
His rationalizing this is that he works hard and he can waste money. When I buy something I am wasting his money. I am the one who can't budget money, or save money. I admit in the past I tried to save money and I was horrible at it, but I have gotten much better, but hubby and his habits just don't help any way at all, sometimes I am so tired of this. Cheryl

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

This was my plan but things have changed.. I got a CVS coupon $5/$30 so I have to factor that in and I now have $18 RR to work with. I will be posting what I buy on Sunday.

My CVS plans for the week of March 15th-
Irish spring Body wash ( 15-18 ounce) $4.99 get a $4.99 ECB= free
( there might be an upcoming $.50 coupon in Sunday's paper
Colgate Max white toothpaste- $2.99 Get $2.99 in ECB back
$1.50 all for you cooupon)
Dove spend $15 get 5 in ECB's
Dove skin vitalizer = $10 - $3.50 = $6.50
dove deodorant.. 2/$7 - $2.50= $4.50
After coupons= $11. - $5 in ECBs= $6
Bandaids/neosporin spend $7 get $3 in ECBs
Use $3 in coupons to make it $4 and use $3 in ecb to make it $1
Pantene pro V shampoo Conditioner 2/$7 get 2 in ECB back
I am hoping to use 2$1 coupons and $2 in ECB to make this $3
Rite Guard deodorant spend $2.99 get $ 2 in ECB back
so this is my thinking:
4.99
2.99
17.00
7.00
7.00
2.99
= $41.97
- .50
1.50
3.50
2.50
3
2=
$28.97-
20.97
=$8 = Tax
and get back $20.97 in ECBs
Walgreens=
Dove buy 8 get $8 in rr's back
I have a free coupon for body wash , will be using this and Dove is 25% off this week I think with the upcoming coupons this could be a good mm for me
Also Listerine/reach is you buy 3 for $9 of products you get $6 back. there is a coupon for $3 of 3 reach products coming up and I have $6 in RR to burn so I am hoping for a good week this week. cheryl

Saving, Saving, Saving.....

Hubby's job is slowing down, With his overtime in the past we have done so much( hubby's check supports our family and his in Honduras) , now that work is slow I am thankful I have some things saved and still have "money" to roll at CVS and some at Walgreens. At CVS I have $47.98 to roll and I am hoping that I continue to roll this throughout the year. At Walgreens I am expecting a $20.88 gift card and have $8 in R.R. I hope to keep going.
My stock for health and beauty aids consists of 3 rubbermaid boxes( 2 full and one 3/4 way full) a shelf of things in my closet and a windowsill of things. I have enough toothpaste to last 2 yrs( 1/2 is going to Honduras when we send a box down ) , about 20 toothbrushes, 10 mouthwashes, 14 lotions, 16 body washes, and maybe 10 hair care stuff, also I have make-up, bandaids, and I hope to continue stocking up. I still can't believe all I have , last year I never thought I could shop at CVS and save the money I have. Cheryl

My menu plan for the week.

Since hubby get's paid on a Friday I begin my menu for Saturday..
Saturday.. Thai Seared shrimp. My first time making this, it is like a soup made with Coconut milk..I will be using light coconut milk.
Sunday- stuffed poblano chili's this is stuffed with vegetables and beans topped with queso fresco and baked.. much healthier than the restaurant orders.
Monday- It is hubby's B'day and we are planning on going out to eat. Yes!! no cooking for me!!
Tuesday.. rotisserie chicken with ancho fries and broccoli
Wednesday- Greek Pasta.. pasta made with olives , roasted red peppers, Feta cheese, artichokes and garlic..yummy
Thursday- Spicy szechuan noodles with shrimp eggrolls. This is so easy to make and DD and I love it.
Friday-quesadillas with a salad or pico de gallo
Hope you like it. Cheryl

OFF to the Flea Market......... for fresh Produce..

In N.C. it is nothing like N.Y.C. that I grew up in. In the city I would go to the corner fruit stand to get my produce, different areas of N.Y.C. have different items, and since I have been gone I am sure it is way different. When I was in my late teens , I lived in an Italian neighborhood and I remember one of the produce stands having all these strange looking things, which I now know was Fava beans, white eggplants, and other things I can't think of at the moment. My mother worked in a fruit market in a Jewish area when I was a child and there they had rice cakes, lots of dried fruits and nuts.
Here in N.C. I have found the best place to get tropical produce is at the flea market near bye. They are open Saturday and Sunday, but I love to go late Friday afternoon when a few produce stands start selling their wares early. I can get a box of Mangos for $12, fresh Papaya, dried chilis
Since being married to my husband I have learned to appreciate foods I knew nothing about and use them in my cooking. Tonight I hope to find.. Mangos, Papaya, mini bananas( aka. apple bananas), garlic, red onions, green bananas, green onions( aka scallions), dried chipotle chili, cucumbers, carrots. Changed my blog's name..

I originally called my blog Mutt Cooking, but I wanted to talk more than just cooking. So I decided on Multi-Ethnic lifestyle.. I consider myself multi-ethnic.. being of Italian, German and Russian background. I grew up eating both Lasagna and noodle pudding and then to marry someone who is from another country where the culture is the exact opposite of yours is a challange everyday. I have become bi-lingual so language isn't a big barrier, but the meanings get lost in translation at times, food, cooking, and shopping is some of the biggest barrier's I have. Finding true friends is a real challange too, My husband's countrymen don't really accept me, because I was born in another country I think they look at me as an alien, and people here in the U.S. are just as judgemental. Of course there are people who are cool , in Louisiana hubby and I had more friends than here in N.C. , and I just got back in touch with a good friend , who now lives in Minnesota, but it is challanging making new friends. I hope you like my blog and be patient, because I can be quiet lazy about posting, but I am trying to be better. Cheryl

Trying to be Frugal..

For the past 3 1/2 yrs I have been trying to be more and more frugal. I think for 2 yrs I was kind of in shock from loosing almost everything due to Hurricane Katrina and then for 6 months I was just trying to get it together. Finally I am getting it. For the first time in 15 yrs of using coupons I am actually making them working for me . I have a stock pile full of health and beauty aids, cleaning products and some food. Not having a freezer, a small rental house, and our food needs sometimes hampers this but I am doing this. Daily I discover new ways to be better, and I am feeling good about it. Cheryl

I am making a new menu for next week...

Hubby gets paid biweekly on Friday and I am beginning to make my menu up. I make a menu good enough for 2 wks, but sometimes stray because it is so long. What I do to get ready for shopping and menu planning is first go through my recipes and the ones that sound good I take out and put in a pile then I start writing down what I am going to make for each day. Now that the weather is getting warmer , cooking strategies need to change, less and less soups more menus for warmer days. Hubby is going to want to grill outside more, but we need a new grill first. We love grilling fish and veggies outside and hubby will always grill himself a piece of meat. I should have the menu done by tomorrow and will be posting it Friday. Cheryl

The challanges of going from 4 to 3 and different menus..

My Son went off to college this year so it is challenging going from cooking for 4 to cooking for 3.
First of all I have much more leftovers, some that we eat and some that no one wants. I am trying to adjust and it has gotten better but there are still days when I over cook.
Another challenge is cooking for my family . Lets see if I can explain why. My husband is from Honduras, Central America and grew up eating lots of fresh produce, home made soups , rice , beans and at every meal some type of meat. My Son would eat anything I made, whether it be vegetarian, meat, fish ect.. My daughter is my problem eater.. she will not eat anything made with tomato sauce( kind of hard for me since I grew up eating a lot of Italian food), no red meat/pork on almost all occasions( she likes pot roast, but just eats the veggies and beef soup but also just eats the veggies) , she will eat a few pieces of chicken when I make it, but there must be side dishes, she does not like fish, except for shellfish, and even some vegetarian dishes she will not eat.
I grew up in NYC, in a Italian, jewish household so pasta was a big staple and tomato sauce. My husband does not like to eat a lot of pasta( he will eat it maybe once a month) , and my daughter will not eat it if it has tomato sauce, if I make something that doesn't have tomato sauce that is great. So there goes baked ziti, lasagna, eggplant parmaigana out the window. When I make a pasta dish that my daughter and I both like hubby will not eat it and makes himself some soup or something. I also do not eat any kind of pork, beef, poultry, only fish.Cooking is more than a challange in my house sometimes I want to cry.
When we all eat the same meal it feels like a victory. Menu planning is always challanging and I know I need to have some kind of extra meal on board for either hubby, dd or me. Sometimes I just want to scream!! That is my challange and my rant for the day. Cheryl

Monday Menu planning...

I have been sick, but finally feel well enough to write this. We had a beautiful snow fall last night, so Menu has changed some
Monday.. Chipotle Black bean soup with white rice and I will make some platains on the side ,I will serve this with corn tortillas, cheese/sour cream. Hubby will make some beef on the side for him.
Tuesday... peanut butter noodles.. These are noodles made with Peanut butter , soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and some other stuff and I will bake some shrimp on the side.. yummy
Wednesday.. ravioli with spinach and basil soup.. this is supposed to be made with tortellini, but I bought mini ravioli's at Sam's and it turns out just as good with Ravioli's you top this with lots of cheese and serve with Italian bread
Thursday.. chicken, and mac and cheese( I got this from some blog , sorry I don't remember , it is made with cauliflower and real yummy ) . Cheryl
Friday is pay day for hubby so dinner will be some type of take out not sure right now .
Saturday is too far down the line to have a menu planned. Cheryl
